Sierra Leone: Deputy Health Minister Optimistic
by fairhaven March 29, 2020 0 comments The Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation II, Dr. Amara Jambai has expressed optimism that Sierra Leoneans will definitely get through should there be any Corona virus outbreak in the country.
Speaking to pressmen in Freetown yesterday, the former Chief Medical Officer said the fight against COVID-19 is a fight the country and people must have to win. Dr. Jambai stressed that, just like the Ebola outbreak in 2014, it is obvious that Sierra Leone can do it again with COVID-19.
The Deputy Health Minister II highly commended the preventive measures put in place by President Julius Maada Bio. He therefore called on massive internal support particularly from the private sector. This is because, according to him, developing countries that the country depends on for support are also battling with the virus.
Due to the threat that the corona virus disease poses to the lives of the people and the economy of Sierra Leone, and the need to take effective measures to prevent, protect, and curtail the spread of the disease throughout Sierra Leone, the President has made a, declaration that a State of Public Emergency exists in the whole of the Republic of Sierra Leone with effect from the 24th Day of March 2020 for a period of twelve months.
According to President Bio, the Corona virus disease is a highly infectious disease that constitutes a public emergency of international concern that has been declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organisation.
The rapid global spread of the corona virus poses great risk to human life and can cause enormous socio-economic disruption in Sierra Leone. This situation therefore requires effective measures to prevent, protect, and curtail the spread of the corona virus diseases in Sierra Leone.
